Learn to Let Go

Words and Music Donald Benson copyright 2009

Life takes us down many roads, down through the years

There’s hopes, there’s dreams, it’s seldom what it seems,

Love above all

There’s rocky roads and rocking boats, calm and rough seas

An up hill climb, a down

hill glide, it’s more how

you take things

Chorus:

As I try to learn to let

go, my attachment

Grows And it pulls away

a part of me, in this life, my waking dream

As babes we are born,

into children we grow, teens, adult elderly

Each step of the way,

work or play, the past is

so hard to let go

Life is full of letting go, release opens the door

From babes at breast to

a wedding dress

Loved ones and friends leave life’s shore

Chorus:

As I try to learn to let

go, my attachment

Shows And it pulls away

a part of me, in this life, my waking dream

On roads uncertain, till

we draw the curtain

Not much we can be sure,

Not many things last a lifetime, life goes to fast and Love

is the only thing that lasts

Chorus:

As I try to learn to let

go, my attachment goes

Release opens the door

to the next adventure

Release opens the door

to the next adventure

About this song…

While visiting our acupressure therapist, she told us of how her daughter, who had been very close since birth, had married and moved out of state to go to school.  She related how much she missed her and how hard it was to let her go.

This made me reflect on my own life and all of the feelings I was holding onto and sometimes how hard it is to move on.

This song is about the seasons of life and my personal view of them.

After all is over and done Love is the only thing that lasts.

Let this song to speak personally to you and your life experience.

When I recorded it, I looked at Jay and asked if we should add anything to it.  He said this song needs nothing and that it should stand on it’s own.

A very special thanks to our daughter Hollie for her help in writing this song with suggestions of grow, shows, goes.

Love, DB
