My First Love

Words and Music Donald Benson copyright 2012

I’m gonna dig a new outhouse hole and name it after you

And what smells reminds me of, the treatment of me, that you do

I think I’ll make some catfish bait, wait until it gets good and rotten

That slimy fish is hard to hold, like you, in case I’d forgotten

Chorus:

Out there in the wilderness of love, you must’a got lost

It’s like the winter wind chilled your heart

And I can’t thaw the frost

I know you like the cabin I built, hand pump at the sink

But the way you been treat’n me, well it just stinks

Chorus:

The things that you’re tell’n me, don’t match up with what you’re do’n

With what I know and what I see, who do you think you’re fool’n

Chorus:

Way out there in the wilderness of love, you must’a got lost

It’s like the winter wind chilled your heart

And I can’t thaw the frost

Just like when I go fish’n, I let the first one go

About this song…

We all have a hillbilly side, or at least we should, and this is mine.  This song is not about any one person in particular, no malice to anyone from my past or present.  I was out digging a hole one day and this song just popped into my head and I started singing it.  It is just a catchy tune and written all in fun.

Don Benson: lead vocals, guitar, ukulele

Jay Round: upright bass, guitar, background vocals

Nelson Wood: pedal steel, dobro
